Summary

The Integrated Fruit Processing is a Coast Development Authority project that was started by CDA in 2013 with an aim of supporting over 5,000 fruit farmers in the area who needed a ready market for their produce. The fruit processing plant has an installed capacity of 30 metric tonnes per day, processing fresh mangoes, pineapples, water melons and tomatoes for both local and international markets. The process includes undertaking value-added activity(s), which will increase the quality and shelf life of Kenyan fruits for the international market. The project is located in Hola,Tana River County which is 350KMs from Mombasa and 544Kms from Nairobi. There is very high demand for pulp in juice manufacturing factories in Kenya. The demand is evidenced by the over 20 factories which import pulp to supplement the minimal local supplies. Over 10,000 litres of juice are consumed at the Coast daily. Leading supply chains like supermarkets and wholesalers report huge sales from the sales of fast moving goods like fresh juice due to the high demand .Hotel industries and other institutions consume a lot of fresh juice as per a market survey conducted in the Coast region. Judging by the demand rates the project is economically viable
