Summary

The Project aims to increase household income through value addition, improve livestock productivity in the region and support livestock farmers in managing pests and diseases through the establishment of a Disease Control Center, Construction of Abattoirs, Development of Hides and skins processing Facilities, Establishment of ranches that promote fodder production and water resources development, Capacity building of farmers on good commercial livestock keeping, marketing and market linkages and establishment of a Livestock fund/kitty and insurance. The Project directly contributes to Kenya's Big 4 Agenda on Food Security and Manufacturing and the Economic arm. Also, in the Macro and Socio pillars of Vision 2030, its objective is to reduce postharvest losses (20%- 40 % of the total produce) and create employment opportunities for youth, women and other vulnerable groups. The Project's funding need is USD14.30M (Kshs 1.5B).
